Sharge Disk Pro 2 Finally Gets EDC Right With Switch 2 and iPhone Tricks

Sharge has been making adorable gadgets for years — the retro Mac-shaped chargers, the transparent power banks — but they’ve always felt more like desk ornaments than essential gear. The Disk Pro 2 changes that. This is the first Sharge product I’d actually miss if I left it at home.

The Switch 2 integration nobody expected

Here’s the headline feature most outlets are burying: the Disk Pro 2 works as native expanded storage for the Nintendo Switch 2. Not through some janky workaround — Nintendo actually certified it. Plug it into the dock’s USB-C port, format it through system settings, and you’ve got 2TB of game storage running at speeds that match the internal drive. Given that AAA Switch 2 titles are pushing 40-60GB now, this matters more than any spec sheet number.

iPhone ProRes recording without the storage anxiety

The second trick is iPhone-specific. Connect to an iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, and you can record ProRes video directly to the Disk Pro 2. No more watching your 256GB fill up in twenty minutes of 4K120 footage. The drive handles sustained writes at 1,200 MB/s — more than enough for ProRes HQ. Apple’s been pushing external recording since iOS 18, but this is the first drive compact enough to actually use handheld.

100W passthrough changes the math

Most portable SSDs are one more thing to charge. The Disk Pro 2 has 100W USB-C passthrough — plug your laptop charger into the drive, plug the drive into your laptop, and everything charges while you transfer. It’s a small thing that eliminates the “do I have enough ports” calculation entirely. The drive itself runs passively cooled with no battery, so there’s nothing to manage.

What the specs actually look like

The 2TB model ships at $179. 1TB drops to $129. Both use PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives rated at 2,100 MB/s reads and 1,800 MB/s writes — real-world numbers land closer to 1,900/1,500 in sustained transfers, which is still faster than any portable SSD under $200. The enclosure is aluminum with Sharge’s signature transparent accent panel, weighing 68 grams. Dimensions are 78 x 45 x 12mm — slightly thicker than a stack of credit cards.

The catch, because there’s always one

No Thunderbolt. This is USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 only, which means Mac users with Thunderbolt ports are leaving performance on the table. Sharge says a Thunderbolt 4 version is coming in Q4 at a $50 premium. For Switch 2 and iPhone use cases, USB-C speeds are more than sufficient. For video editors moving 8K RAW between machines, wait for the upgrade.

I’ve been carrying the Disk Pro 2 for two weeks now. It lives in the same pocket as my AirPods case. That’s the whole point — a portable drive that’s actually portable, that does more than just store files. At $179, it’s the first storage accessory I’d recommend without caveats.
